ZZ Top has a box set out today, The Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990, a ten disc set that contains... the complete studio albums released between 1970 and 1990. That’s a very descriptive title.
On Blu Ray for the first time, Rockshow, Paul McCartney’s concert film from the Paul McCartney and Wings tour in 1975 and 76’ It is fully restored from the original 35mm film and will include a 5.1 surround sound mix.
Oz, The Great and Powerful lands on Blu Ray today too. This is the recently released Disney prequel to The Wizard of Oz. I want to point out that usually if you buy a 3D version of a Blu Ray you get the 2D version as well. That’s not the case here. In a more or less unprecedented move, Disney will sell the 2D version completely separately from the 3D version, and they’re not lowering the price on either version. For most people, this won’t matter, but for those of you with 3D TVs, if you want a 2D version to watch on a different screen, you’re gonna have to pay twice.
Apple unveiled iOS 7 yesterday, that’s the operating system that runs iPhones and iPads. It will change the way your iPhone looks, but not necessarily how it works. The default programs and icons will change, the default color schemes change, the fonts change. Accessing your camera, your music, your calculator, your brightness settings, bluetooth settings, airplane mode and a handful of other features is made much simpler thanks to a feature called Control Center, which you access with a swipe up from the bottom.
Multitasking is available to all apps. Siri gets new voices, including a male voice, and it gets smarter too, it can access twitter, voice mail, brightness and it will interface with your car if your car has those features. iOS 7 will be free, when it launches this fall, but it’s designed for the iPhone 6, or whatever the next generation of phones will be called.
