Tech Toy Tuesday 07/09/13

Whitesnake is putting out a double live album. The first disc is Made in Britain which is the concert from their 2011 UK tour. The second is called The World Album which is a collection of live tracks taped, you guessed it, all over the world.

On Blu Ray this week, a lot of terrible movies. Don’t buy any of them.

Video games, two major releases this week. The first is NCAA 14’ that’s EA Sports’ college football game. I know there’s a lot of people who prefer the college game to the pros and there’s a lot of people who prefer NCAA to Madden. If that describes you, you can snag it today.

Also out, a Playstation 3 exclusive. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection. It’s $50 bucks and it’s every single main storyline game in the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series. All of the 3D games are in their HD versions. If you’re a hard core Metal Gear fan you probably own all of these already but for a casual fan or someone looking to get into the series you cannot go wrong with this one.

Tech toy of the week is the Garmin HUD, that stands for Heads Up Display. What this does is project your directions onto a special film you stick to your windshield like on an airplane so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to know where you’re supposed to turn. There are a few car companies that offer HUDs in their vehicles but it’s mainly limited to luxury cars and even there, they’re not that widespread.

The hud gives you directions, as you’d figure it would, it also gives you up to the minute estimated arrival times and, this is my favorite feature, it tells you which lane to be in. It also tells you the speed limit of the road you’re on, it can alert you to traffic issues ahead of you and in some places it can even tell you where there are red light and speed cameras.

It’s important to point out that the HUD is NOT a GPS itself. You have to have one of garmin’s apps on your phone and then sync it with the Hud via bluetooth but if you have a smartphone that’s not difficult, but if you’re buying it for someone else, make sure they can do that or at least be able to set it up for them.

The Hud is not available yet but it should be in stores by the end of the summer. It will retail for $130.
