New music this week, Johnny Cash: Life Unheard. This is a partnership between Sony and Life Magazine which includes rare solo acoustic recordings from the House of Cash studio in Nashville as well as live tracks taped at the Newport Folk Festival, the White House, and more. If you’re a really big Cash fan you can pair this with Johnny Cash: Life Unseen which is an illustrated biography

Out on Blu Ray this week is Olympus Has Fallen. It stars Morgan Freeman Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhardt. It’s basically the first Die Hard, only instead of  Nakatomi Plaza, the target is the White House. Eckhardt plays the president and Gerard Butler the only man who can save his life.

So the tech toy of the week this week is a TV. It’s not even that fancy of a TV. It’s not 3D, it’s not one of those 4K sets, and ...

New music today, a greatest hits album from John Mellencamp. Nothing Like I Planned, of course, if you were to plan out a John Mellencamp greatest hits, it would probably look a bit like this, so it’s sort of what you planned, right?

On Blu Ray today, Oblivion, this is the Tom Cruise/Morgan Freeman dystopian Sci Fi thriller. This is not to be confused with Edge of Tomorrow, which is Cruise’s next film which sports a similar premise. Cruise plays Jack Harper, who is not to be confused with Jack Reacher, the character he played in his previous film.

Also out today, Disney releases The Sword and The Stone and Robin Hood for the first time on Blu. Grab them if you’re a Disney fan, because after a year or so in stores they take them away for 10 years.

Also, this isn’t new, and I don’t normally do this, ...

Season 4 of Star Trek: The Next Generation out on Blu Ray today. This is when the show really started to move from good to great. It opened with The Best of Both Worlds part II, that’s where Picard becomes a Borg. This season also introduced the Cardassians and was nominated for eight Emmys.

Tech toy of the week this week is the Google Chromecast. If you bought your TV within the last 6 or so years it has an HDMI port, could have one even if it’s older than that, but they’re pretty standard now. The Chromecast plugs into the HDMI port and it does two really impressive things.

First it allows you ...

All of the packaging art is included and they’re remastered to make em’ sound really nice.

On Blu Ray, 42, the  Jackie Robinson documentary starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford is out. Good movie for baseball fans and kids. Spoiler alert: Jackie Robinson was black.

The Tech Toy of the Week this week is Earl. Earl is billed as a Backcountry Survival Tablet. It’s a tablet that is built to take a ...

Whitesnake is putting out a double live album. The first disc is Made in Britain which is the concert from their 2011 UK tour. The second is called The World Album which is a collection of live tracks taped, you guessed it, all over the world.

On Blu Ray this week, a lot of terrible movies. Don’t buy any of them.

Video games, two major releases this week. The first is NCAA 14’ that’s EA Sports’ college football game. I know there’s a lot of people who prefer the college game to the pros and there’s a lot of people who prefer NCAA to Madden. If that describes you, you can snag it today.

Also out, a Playstation 3 exclusive. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection. It’s $50 bucks and it’s every single main storyline game in the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series. All of the 3D games ...

This actually came out last week but I wasn’t here and it’s pretty cool so I wanna talk about it. Timeless Flight, a four disc Moody Blues retrospective that comes packaged in a hard bound book. It’s not a box set or a greatest hits, rather it’s a collection of 5.1 mixes, live cuts, B sides and other oddities.

On Blu Ray, a collectors edition of one of the funniest movies of all time. Mel Brooks’ The Producers. This was Brooks’ first movie and it remains one of his best. This edition of the film includes a making of documentary, if you’re a Mel Brooks fan and you don’t own The Producers this is a no brainer. If you already do it might be worth it for the documentary alone, but your milage may vary, of course.

Normally I wouldn’t do a news and rumor story as the tech toy ...

The Cars Greatest Hits is being reissued on a limited edition 180 gram vinyl pressing. It comes with a gatefold sleeve and the original artwork, and as far as greatest hits go, this is an outstanding collection. If you’re a vinyl aficionado, you could do much worse.

On Blu Ray and DVD, Jackson Browne’s  I’ll Do Anything, which was filmed last year during his tour. There’s... uh... seventeen tracks of Jackson Browne goodness. If that’s your bag, go grab it.

I haven’t talked about video games on the show in a few weeks and that’s because there really haven’t been any notable releases recently. There’s a reason for that. Microsoft and Sony are both putting out new systems this Fall. Sony will launch the PS4, Microsoft the Xbox One (Warning: link autoplays a video). We’ve known about both systems for more than a month, but last week was E3, which ...

ZZ Top has a box set out today, The Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990, a ten disc set that contains... the complete studio albums released between 1970 and 1990. That’s a very descriptive title.

On Blu Ray for the first time,  Rockshow, Paul McCartney’s concert film from the Paul McCartney and Wings tour in 1975 and 76’ It is fully restored from the original 35mm film and will include a 5.1 surround sound mix.

Oz, The Great and Powerful lands on Blu Ray today too. This is the recently released Disney prequel to The Wizard of Oz. I want to point out that usually if you buy a 3D version of a Blu Ray you get the 2D version as well. That’s not the case here. In a more or less unprecedented move, Disney will sell the 2D version completely separately from the 3D version, and they’re not lowering the price ...

We are right in the middle of Rolling Stones MAYnia - and by the way, listen for Twofers of the Stones during the morning 97@9 for your chance to win tickets to see the Stones - but you can get your hands on something pretty cool starting next week. ABKCO records will re-release three Rolling Stones albums on clear vinyl. Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Hot Rocks 1964-1971. The rumor is more clear vinyl reissues are on the way.

Tech toy of the week this week is a video game. In fact, it’s a game you’ve heard of, a game you’ve probably played before, it’s Madden Football. It’s not out yet, of course, but this year’s edition has a really cool bonus. Madden won’t be called Madden 14, it’s going to be called Madden 25, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game.

The $100 special edition of Madden ...
