Going From Small Town To Big City!

Posted 4/10/2014 3:40:00 PM

I absoultely love Chicago and I've been living here for quite some time now but I didn't always live here, I grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota. Having lived in both places there are a few big differences that I've noticed between the two that are pretty funny! I really notice the differences when my family comes to visit. My dad can never find a place to park his truck because it's too big to fit in most of the parking garages and my mom is terrified of traffic! I thought it'd be humorous to put a list together of some of the bigger differences I've noticed between the small town in northern Minnesota where I grew up and the best city in the world, Chicago. ENJOY!

1) If you honk at someone in a small town be prepared to get out of your car and 'duke' ...

Upcoming Events

Posted 4/3/2014 3:25:00 PM

I'm definitely ready for baseball season and baseball weather to be here! Zakk and I had a great time broadcasting live at the White Sox home opener on Tuesday from Mitchell's Tap. The White Sox ended up beating the Minnesota Twins so there was a lot to celebrate on the Southside. Hopefully the Cubs will be able to pull off a win as well for their home opener tomorrow. Zakk and I will be up with all you early birds at Rockit Bar from 6am-10am to hang out with our fellow Cub fans, give away some awesome concert tickets, and, of course, throw a few back!

Next week will be a great time as well! As most of you know, I have been a ring girl for big MMA fight organizations for a few years now so I was overjoyed to find out that I will be the ring girl ...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Posted 3/13/2014 4:37:00 PM

Will winter ever be over? I sure hope so! This cold weather needs to stop! March 20th is the first official day of spring, so hopefully it'll only get warmer from there. I know a lot of us could use some decent bar-crawl weather by the weekend because it's one of the biggest drinking times of the year… St. Patrick's Day weekend! Chicago is one of the biggest parties cities in the United States when it comes to celebrating the Irish. On Saturday it’s the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, and on Sunday it’s the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade so there's plenty to look foward to in the city!

For those of you who live in the Libertyville area, I will be at Liberty Auto City from 12pm-2pm (1000 E. Park Ave) on Saturday. Make sure to mark your calendar and stop by for a chance at ...

February- Here We Come!

Posted 2/7/2014 2:09:00 PM

First of all, I hope you have flipped your 2014 Loop Rock Girl calendar over to the month of February! For those of you who haven't gotten my calendar yet, I'll be signing and handing them out at our radio station events and also doing giveaways through my Facebook page and Twitter accounts so be sure to 'like' The Loop Rock Girl-Shannon page and follow me on Twitter @TheLoopRockGirl.

Secondly, I hope you're all ready for Valentine's Day! I know what you guys out there are thinking, "But Shannon, I have a week!" Trust me, you'll forget; it's best to just walk into the closest convenience store and grab her some chocolates and a card at the very least. Whatever you do, just don't forget! Women don't easily forgive. We can be ruthless, as I'm sure some of you know. ;)

Lastly, the Chicago Auto Show is almost here! The ...

New Years Resolutions

Posted 1/13/2014 9:51:00 AM

Congratulations! If you're reading this it means you've successfully made it to year 2014! I hope you enjoyed your New Years and didn't have too bad of a hangover on January 1st. Did you make any big New Years resolutions? I've decided to share some of mine with you!

A new skill I'd like to learn: I'd love to try bow hunting! Call me crazy, but I think it sounds like a lot of fun. My dad has always been a great all-around hunter so it's about time for me to catch up.

A place I'd like to visit: My family goes hiking in Wyoming every year around the end of the summer, but I've never been able to make it, so I'd love to make that trip with them this year!

A book I'd like to read: I'm a pretty avid reader. I read during my commute on the ...

2014 Loop Rock Girl Calendar Is OUT!

Posted 12/19/2013 1:01:00 PM

I'm so excited for the 2014 Loop Rock Girl calendar to finally be out and ready for all of you Loyal Loopers! The shots in this calendar are definitely my favorite shots thus far as the Loop Rock Girl! Keep in mind that even though I'm in all the pictures, there is so much more to this calendar than just me. Tons of people were involved and it took months and months to finish. I'm so happy with the final results though because this is one ROCKIN' calendar! I hope all of you enjoy it as much as I do!

I REALLY love that this calendar will start off with December of 2013 too! Why start off a great calendar in January when you can start it a month early? ;) We even mixed it up this year to show you another side of me that maybe some of you ...

Happy Holidays!

Posted 12/5/2013 3:54:00 PM

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how fast the time has flown by this year, especially these last couple months? I feel like I blinked and missed Thanksgiving, and I celebrated it twice! If you're a bargain shopper and decided to go Black Friday shopping, hopefully you didn't get trampled on too badly during those Black Friday stampedes (I don't know if any of you have seen the Black Friday YouTube videos or not, but it was pretty horrifying)! I personally spent my Black Friday signing my 2014 Loop Rock Girl calendar posters for Hawthorne Race Course and the event turned out great! I successfully left the race course with a hand cramp from signing so many calendars, so that's always a good sign! ;)

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's about that time to go gift shopping for friends and family! I always find that a ...

2014 Calendar Shooting Is Done!

Posted 11/7/2013 11:22:00 AM

I'm so excited to be The Loop Rock Girl again for the upcoming year. We'll make sure 2014 is just as incredible, if not more, than 2013! Thanks again for making my first year with The Loop such an amazing experience.

I have great news! We have officially finished shooting for the 2014 Loop Rock Girl calendar. The best part about this calendar is that this year we are starting the calendar off with Decemeber. That's right! Instead of the calendar starting with the month of January, we decided to begin it a month earlier!

I've been all over Chicago shooting for this calendar. I've done photoshoots at Pat Capone's place (which is beautiful by the way), Hawthorne Race Course, the House of Blues, and even Navy Pier! The photographers, hair and makeup stylists, graphic designers, and everyone else involved in making this calendar possible are top notch! I know ...

One Rockin' Year As The Loop Rock Girl!

Posted 9/26/2013 2:36:00 PM

As many of you already know, The Loop has asked me to be your permanent Loop Rock Girl! I'm still in shock over that recent decision. It is such an honor to represent the best classic rock radio station in Chicago! I say on Twitter and other social media that I have the best job in the whole world and I say it because it's 100% true, I really do. I have all of you Loyal Loopers to thank for that! If it wasn't for all of you loving rock and roll the way you do, we wouldn't have this station, and without this station, I wouldn't have the job that I do, so I really can't begin to thank you enough!

One year ago I was stressing out about what I was going to do and say in my 2-minute submission video for the 2013 Loop Rock Girl search. ...

Rock Band Facts!

Posted 9/10/2013 2:24:00 PM

I'm one of those people who genuinely looks forward to opening up a bottle of Snapple simply to see the random facts that they put onto the other side of the bottle cap. Yes, I know, I'm a nerd. For some reason I'm really good at remembering useless facts, like the fact that there are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. Maybe someday this meaningless knowledge will be useful if I ever get accepted onto the show 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' but since I don't see that happening any time soon I've decided that it would be much more fun to learn random facts about rock bands instead!

If you follow me on twitter @TheLoopRockGirl I will now be posting a few random rock band facts a week under the hashtag #RockBandFact! If you have a twitter account you can check them out there and feel ...
