Bears season? You bet

It’s a typical August in Chicago. The Cubs season can’t end soon enough and Bears season can’t get here faster.
This past weekend the Pro Football Hall of Fame held its annual induction ceremony before the New Orleans Saints defeated the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL preseason opener. On Thursday night the Chicago Bears play the Denver Broncos from Soldier Field.
Wow. It feels like just last week Caleb Hanie was scoring points for opposing fantasy football defenses. Good news, Chicago. Hanie will be at the game but he’ll be in a Broncos uniform.
Maybe now Caleb will throw at the players wearing a Bears uniform...
I’m not a fan of preseason football for most of the same reasons I don’t go to strip clubs. Why be teased by a no-touch and fake exhibition when it’s the real and full contact event that you really want?
To help fill the gap between your fantasy draft and the first regular season Bears game (on 9/9 vs Indianapolis) check out what odds makers offer for 2012.
Chicago Bears to win:
* Super Bowl XLVII - 20/1
* NFC Championship - 12/1
* NFC North Division - 9/2
* Over/under total regular season victories - 8.5
Season player and defense props:
* Jay Cutler most NFL regular season passing yards - 40/1
* Matt Forte most NFL regular season rushing yards - 25/1
* Brandon Marshall most NFL regular season receiving yards - 16/1
* Over/under total sacks - 34.5
On Thursday the Bears are favored at home by 3.5 over Denver. But you’d have to consider owning to a serious gambling problem for betting on NFL preseason. (I’d take Denver with the points. The first exhibition is tough to predict but my instincts say Manning will play more intense than Jay Cutler being it's his debut with a new team - and because he is Peyton Manning)
