New Black Sabbath in April 2013

Good news for Sabbath fans.. The godfathers of heavy metal have officially announced that their new album is set to be released in April of 2013.

Things seem to be moving along well for Black Sabbath. They have scheduled a series of dates in Australia that coincidentally start in April 2013. Their first show happens on April 25 in Brisbane and then everything eventually wraps up May 4 in Perth.

But what about Bill Ward?

Bill has certainly made the fans aware of his “contractual” struggles with Black Sabbath that have already prevented him from performing at previous reunion shows… and this still seems to be the case when it comes to recording. No doubt Bill would enjoy being a part of the future of Black Sabbath - "I'll always play – that's my life. If there's some longevity with Black Sabbath, then I'd like to be a part of it."

Personally, I think there is a lot of grey area on both sides of this “contract” issue.

Last night Tony Iommi had this to say about playing again with Bill, "We'll always have a heart for Bill, but I think it's gone past that now, because it's gone on so long that I don't see that happening at the moment. Maybe at some point we might.”

Like Van Halen, Sabbath will “reunite” and now record with all but one key member - A member whose contributions to the band are well recognized - A player who is more than able to play and record - An original piece of the project who would still love to be a part of everything moving forward – and maybe even more importantly, a person who the fans would dearly love to see back with the original lineup.

So then, why not include them? Why go 75% of the way and not the last 25%?

Ego perhaps. Maybe financial, but I truly doubt that would stop someone from partaking in a classic reunion. But who’s Ego? We know it wasn't Michael Anthony’s ego that prevented him from returning to Van Halen. So, who in Sabbath? Bill? Somebody else?

Ah, we may never know.

Bands. They are just like dysfunctional families. The parents are the band members, and the music is the kids… and we all want mommy and daddy to stay together for the kids sake, don’t we? Unfortunately, it just never really works out like that.
