Like most rockers, no matter how old, retirement just doesn’t seem to stick. I don’t blame them. In the case of David Bowie, he’s been off the grid since his 2003 release. Well, today, on his birthday, that’s all changed. Check out his new tune and video for – Where Are We Now.
An artist like David Bowie is lucky enough to record and release tunes when he damn well feels like it. I guess when you have album sales that exceed 130 million that’s exactly what happens. For the better part of a decade Mr. Bowie has been “retired”. The last time we really saw or heard from him was back in 2004 when he suffered chest pains during a concert in Germany, diagnosed as an acute blocked artery, requiring an emergency angioplasty. Ouch.
Today, he’s back. Surprisingly, without the usual fanfare and over the top massive hype that would surround a singer of his stature. His new release is mellow. The video, a bit odd, and that’s ok, that’s Bowie. Say what you will, within an hour of this songs release he shot to the top of the UK’s iTunes chart. Not bad for a rocker who just turned 66.
The new album is expected to be released in March of 2013.
