40 Years of Kiss

Yesterday was an anniversary well worth mentioning, however I must admit that I did not know of it until today. On January 30th, 1973 Kiss played their first show in a NY club filled with all of 10 people. They made $50.
Wicked Lester just wasn’t what they wanted. “We tried firing the other three guys but some wouldn’t leave. So we quit. We started again with a vision: ‘Let’s put together the band we never saw on stage.” Says Gene Simmons
After their manager at the time heard the new Kiss material, he quit. He thought it was the worst crap he had ever heard. I wonder how he feels about that these days.
With worldwide record sales in excess of 100 million, and a merchandising business that set the standard for all other bands to follow, Kiss has more than proven that they really are “The Hottest Band in the World”.
“My dream from the start was five years of glory with Kiss. Every band member who has stood with me at some point during these decades has played an essential part in turning that five-year dream into a phenomenal 40-year reality. Humble thanks.” – Paul Stanley.
Happy 40th Anniversary KISS!
