The Steven Tyler Act

Man, you know your cool when they name a law after you. Our boy Steven Tyler may very well have a law named after him in the state of Hawaii – The Steven Tyler Act.

Steven Tyler initiated this act and will appear today with fellow Hawaii resident Mic Fleetwood today as the bill is presented to the Senate at the state capital.

Here is how the bill has been described: “Hawaii Senate Bill 465, also known as the Steven Tyler Act, would create a civil cause of action for "constructive invasion of privacy" in the state of Hawaii.”

According to Mr. Tyler "The paradise of Hawaii is a magnet for celebrities who just want a peaceful vacation. As a person in the public eye, I know the paparazzi are there and we have to accept that. But when they intrude into our private space, disregard our safety and the safety of others, that crosses a serious line that shouldn't be ignored."

In a nutshell the new bill is very similar to one that passed in California back in 1998. It adds a cause of action for constructive invasion of privacy in addition to a cause of action for a physical invasion of privacy. Huh? I’m not sure either, but it sounds like if you’re a paparazzi you better watch your ass or the celebs are gonna screw you back… and that’s cool.
