Biggest Live Earners in Rock 2013

It’s been said by many record executives that today’s artists earn up to 90% of their income through live performances. Billboard has put out their latest chart showing the top 50 earners over the last 12 months time, and the results might be a bit surprising.
What’s important to note here, is the 3 of the top 5 spots are owned by rock acts, with Madonna (pop) scoring the top position, and Mr. Kenny Chesney (country) taking the 5th position. Out of the top 10 grossing live performers, not one of them was hip hop or dance. In fact, other than Madonna sitting large at the top of the list, only one other pop act made the top 10 and that was the Bieber.
Here is a quick look at some of the top rock acts:
#02 – BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN ( $ 33.4 million )
#03 – ROGER WATERS ( $ 21.1 million )
#04 – VAN HALEN ( $ 20.1 million )
#17 – NICKELBACK ( $ 11.1 million )
#25 – RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS ( $ 9.4 million )
#26 – THE ROLLING STONES ( $ 9.2 million )
#28 – RUSH ( $ 8.7 million )
#32 – THE BLACK KEYS ( $ 7.3 million )
#35 – JOURNEY ( $ 6.9 million )
Remember, the figures shown above only reflect sales over the last 12 months, whereas many of the listed tours had already been in progress.
For example, Roger Waters sits pretty at the #3 spot, however his Wall tour was the 5th largest grossing tour of all time with a total gross of $377,895,537 and total attendance of 3.3 million from 192 shows worldwide. Not bad for a cranky bassist in tight black yoga pants.
