The New Hysteria

Meet the new Hysteria, same as the old Hysteria.
The Def Leppard boys have a case of Déjà vu, have a case of Déjà vu. Huh?
Seriously, they have just recorded their hit single Hysteria.. again. You might remember that they have been having some “disagreements” with their record label over the back rights to their catalog, specifically with digital distributions. This is their response – to re-record all of their classic hits so the record company gets NOTHIN. I love it.
Here is how Joe Elliot explained it during an interview last year, “It was, well, let’s just say a sensible business decision on our part. How can I put this politely? We were having a major disagreement with our ex-record label about the digital rights for our back catalog. We couldn’t come to a mutual understanding that seemed fair for both sides. So we finally just decided to re-record all our hits. We started with ‘Sugar’ and ‘Rock of Ages,’ and I think we did a pretty good job. Its hard work trying to recreate something you did 30 years ago.”

It’s as if the band traveled back through time. Cool. Well, at least they didn’t bring back the big shoulder padded suit jackets with them, that would have been awkward. I do miss the British flag tank top though, perhaps fashion will bring that back around too, and cool zipper parachute pants.. sweet!
