Before any race horse is officially named, it must first be approved by The Jockey Club who is responsible for maintaining The American Stud Book. These folks have a helluva sense of humor, are dangerously naive or they are a confused combination of both when consenting to these thoroughbred names. Did Duncan Diss Women?

Following Monday night’s Blackhawks loss in Vancouver, Duncan Keith was asked about the non-call following his apparent slash in Daniel Sadin. The question was directed by Karen Thomson, from Team 1040 in Vancouver. Karen, obviously, is a female. Keith responded by saying that Karen might be an NHL referee and, if so, she’d be the first female to officiate in the league. I don’t think his reply was sexist, but some others are speculating that it might had been. Take a listen (audio on right side of the page). What do you think?

This week our nation was the victim of another senseless tragedy. Our heartfelt thoughts are with those affected by the bombings from the Boston Marathon. No matter where we are from or where we reside, we are Americans. In Chicago, we feel the patriotic pride before Blackhawks home games when Jim Cornelison sings our National Anthem with the help of thousands attending the United Center. But some credit where it is due. Wednesday night from the TD Garden in Boston, fans of the Bruins did a pretty darn good job too. Watch and listen. And God Bless America! Anthony Adams Goes Out in Style

Anthony Adams retired from the NFL this week. Drafted by San Francisco in 2003, Adams played 5 seasons with the Bears. With 278 career tackles and 10.5 quarterback sacks, he won’t to prepare a speech for induction into Canton, Ohio. But he should be remembered for some of the things he’s done off the field. Like when Adams gave away Super Bowl tickets to kids who achieved greatest GPA improvement. Or the time, while in Chicago, he visited local school and helped students write letters to our military oversees. And let’s not forget he was a YouTube star too. It's Mayhem, baby?!?

I was checking some betting odds for the NCAA men’s basketball games when couldn’t help but notice that the online service refers to the tournament as “March Mayhem”. But before I could poke fun at their obvious attempt to refer to a sporting event without infringing on copyrights, I was reminded how every January the radio industry promotes the Super Bowl as “The Big Game”. Well touché, my offshore gambling friend. Speaking of odds, the chances of predicting a perfect bracket is 1 in 9.2 quintillion. That’s a “9”, followed by a decimal, followed by a “2” and followed by seventeen zeros. Sure, we have a chance. I first met Jackyl in the summer of 1992 as they were promoting their debut album. We had dinner before the band tore up the stage at a club on the south side of Pittsburgh. I can recall the main course interrupted when the song “Tequila” was blasted through the restaurant sound system. Jesse James Dupree grabbed a long, black wig (from where he was keeping the prop, I never asked), jumped on the dinner table and did his best Pee Wee Herman impersonation. (Later that night following their set the band members insisted I wear the wig backstage. I was too drunk to ask why or debate it, but relieved that smart phone cameras weren’t popularized just yet) My intoxicated state from that night took days to get over but my friendship with the band remained. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is off to a hurried start. The Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix was the highest rated televised sporting event of last weekend. Like most of you, I was watching the Blackhawks exciting comeback against the Detroit Red Wings. While scoring the winning goal during the shootout, was Patrick Kane also auditioning for the future spot on “Dancing with the Stars”? But afterwards tuned in to watch Carl Edwards take the checkered flag and, of course, celebrate with his patented backflip. (Don’t try imitating the backflip. Trust me) The 2013 Sprint Cup "Race for the Chase" will once again begin at Chicagoland Speedway with the Geico 400.
