Ah, Now I Get It!

For years, I’ve wondered why Chicagolanders pack up their car on Friday’s and head for the woods to either fish, hunt, camp out, drink or all of the above. I never understood why you would leave the comfort of sports bars, air conditioning and Chinese delivery for the hot, sweaty, dirty woods. WHY!?
Well, now I get it! This weekend I went to Michigan to visit my girlfriend’s parents and it was fantastic! Here’s why:
1. No city “glow” at night. Have you ever noticed this place has a general “glow” at night? It never TRULY gets dark here.
2. Fire… ah, the fire! Sitting around a bonfire just talking, laughing, swatting mosquitoes, sipping some of grandpa’s old cough medicine…
3. Good drivin…You can drive for miles without hitting a traffic light.
4. Good eatin… We drove into Ann Arbor and ate at Zingerman’s. WOW … I highly recommend this place if you are ever in the area. You can even buy their stuff online www.Zingermans.com
5. Quiet. The sound of nothing. Being a city slicker, I have to admit, it was a little weird not hearing sirens and gunshots at night.
So, where do you escape to on the weekends?

I stay right in the city...my favorite place. You can't beat Chicago for the immense variety of things to do whether it be a rock concert, sporting event, rockin' bar or restaurant or just a bike ride on the lakefront - there is something for everyone. Yeah, Zingermans is great but like you said, you can get it online and never have to leave Chicago.
