Facebook.com/OfficialArtGarfunkelPageLingering vocal problems have forced Art Garfunkel to cancel the remaining concerts he had scheduled for 2012.
According to a statement Garfunkel's management gave to The Oklahoman regarding the cancellation of a November 2 concert the singer had planned for The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, the vocal problems that kept the singer off the stage for several years are the reason for the cancellations.
"Since doctors discovered a weakened vocal cord in 2010, the singer has been working on mending his voice and is intent on making a full recovery," reads the statement. "Garfunkel regrets the disappointment to fans who bought tickets as well as the venues and promoters who worked to make these shows a success."
"I had such hopes of being finally ready to perform," said Garfunkel in the statement. "How painful to try and not be quite yet there."
Last month, Garfunkel, who has been promoting a new two-CD career retrospective, The Singer, told ABC Radio News how important returning to the stage is to him. "I'm a nervous, restored performer who wants to prove to myself and the audience that this is my life," he said. "I don't know who I am if I'm not a singer, you know? I've been a singer since I was five. It's a very important part of my core, my identity…to carry on is to sing."
Here were the remaining shows on Garfunkel's schedule, according to his official website:
