QueenOnline.comQueen guitarist Brian May reveals that plans are moving forward for a biographical film about late singer Freddie Mercury that will star comic actor Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead role.
In a new post on his official website, May writes that after meeting with Queen drummer Roger Taylor and band manager Jim Beach about the project on Tuesday, "The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule -- filming is now scheduled to start in the spring."
May also reports that the movie "should be ready for release early in 2014." The guitarist explains that his meeting with Taylor and Beach focused on complex "contractual things...and determining who is responsible for what."
The guitar great also notes that other Queen-related plans are in the works, although "they will have to stay under wraps for now."
Declares May, "Being in Queen is, bizarrely, as full of surprising twists and turns as ever -- 40 years since we first got together, and 20 years after losing Freddie." He adds, "But of course Freddie is in so many ways very much alive. He must be wryly smiling somewhere!!!"
Last year, producer Graham King revealed to Digital Spy that the biopic working title was Mercury. The movie is being scripted by screenwriter Peter Morgan, who previously scored Oscar nominations for The Queen and Frost/Nixon.
