11/14/2012

EMI RecordsA collage by artist Sir Peter Blake used to create the insert for The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album has sold at a London auction for over $87,000, the BBC reports. The work was produced in collaboration with pop artist Jann Haworth, depicts Sergeant Pepper with the Fab Four.

According to the BBC, the collage was from the collection of architect Colin St. John Wilson and was presented to Wilson’s wife by Blake shortly after it was made. James Rawlin, Sothebys senior specialist in modern British paintings, said the work was a “tangible slice of rock history.”

The 12-inch-by-12-inch work was inscribed with the words, “For M.J. from Peter and Jann.”
