Larry Busacca/Getty Images for EJAFElton John is now the father of two young boys, and while he's enjoying fatherhood immensely, he says sometimes he wishes that he didn't wait until he was in his sixties to have them.
The British paper The Daily Mirror reports that John told reporters during a Q&A session that fatherhood was "the best decision" that he and partner David Furnish ever made, but added, "I wish we had done it 20 years earlier because I'm no spring chicken." He added, "I understand people criticizing us for having children at a late age, but to hell with it. We can give these children so much love."
However, he admitted that by the time his kids are teenagers, he'll be pretty decrepit. Asked if he'll be worried if his kids started drinking in their teens, he joked that when they're 15, he'll be so old that he'll be using one of those motorized chairs to get up and down stairs and "won't give a f**k."
John also revealed that he's not much of a disciplinarian now, either. "I don’t really tell them off," Elton explained. "If they're being naughty they are being naughty. They are just kids."
In other Elton news, he's scheduled his annual New York City benefit "An Enduring Vision" for October 15, and the night's special honoree will be former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The benefit for John's AIDS Foundation will be hosted for the seventh straight year by Anderson Cooper. The event will present its first-ever Founder's Award to Clinton, in recognition of, among other things, a groundbreaking speech she gave in Geneva, Switzerland, declaring that "gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights."
