Today in 1978, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – the movie – made it's debut in New York. An atrocious film produced by Robert Stigwood, this was was the most embarrassing moment for rock since Pat Boone sang "Ain't That a Shame" while wearing white bucks.
Apparently, someone thought it was a brilliant move to cast The Bee Gees as The Beatles. Can't you just see the corporate guys high-fiving each other over that idea. "It'll be HUGE!"
This movie also managed to kill Peter Frampton's career and was an embarrasment for everyone involved, with the possible exception of Aerosmith who managed to squeeze in a great version of "Come Together."
