Dave Grohl & Foo Fighters Moving In with David Letterman all Next Week

Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters will be hanging with David Letterman all next week.  A television residency?  The five-night stint comes in support of the band’s forthcoming album, Sonic Highways, and the HBO mini-series of the same name.

According to a press release, each Letterman performance will see the band accompanied by an as-yet-unannounced special guest, some of whom inspired Sonic Highways and/or appear on the album.

The band’s HBO ‘Sonic Highways’ series follows Dave Grohl and company as they travel to studios in eight different cities, including Chicago, and recording a song in each city.

In a trailer for the series, Grohl explains that in each studio they would record an instrumental track and he would interview famous musicians from that city. Then, Grohl would take the interviews and use them to write lyrics for a song.

Grohl reveals he interviewed Slash, LL Cool J, Joan Jett, Mike D, Buddy Guy, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Bonnie Raitt, saying, “It’s all over the map.”

Some of those artists may also be appearing with Foo Fighters on ‘Letterman.’ Each night will have a different guest musician sitting in with the band, but details of who will be playing with the Foos have not yet been announced.

The eight-part ‘Sonic Highways’ series premieres on HBO Friday, Oct. 17 at 10PM Chicago time.
