The City Council voted Tuesday to raise Chicago’s smoking age from 18 to 21.

Cities such as New York, Boston, Cleveland, Kansas City and Evanston already have similar ordinances in place.

The aldermen also outlawed discounts, slapped a $6 million tax on tobacco products and banned chew altogether at professional and amateur sporting events, including baseball stadiums.

Chicago is now fourth big league city with a smokeless tobacco ban, joining San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles.
