Steven Tyler has some African-American blood in his DNA.

The revelation came about Monday night when his daughter, actress Liv Tyler, appeared on the TLC show Who Do You Think You Are, which helps celebrities trace their family roots.

Liv learned that her great-great-great-great-grandfather, Robert Elliot, was part African-American or “mulatto.” And like her father, he was a drummer, but obviously not in a rock band. He was a drummer boy at the Siege of Plattsburgh during the War of 1812. Robert’s son George was also a drummer during the Civil War.
