Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones guitarist, singer-songwriter, record producer and actor was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Dartford, Kent, England.
Richards founded the Stones in 1962 with his friend Mick Jagger. He and Jagger began their songwriting partnership in 1963 at the insistence of manager Andrew Loog Oldham.
Rolling Stone magazine credited Richards for "rock's greatest single body of riffs" on guitar and ranked him fourth on its list of 100 best guitarists. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1993. He wrote and recorded hundreds of songs, including the monster hit "Satisfaction," one of the defining songs of the era.
His autobiography, "Life," was released in 2010.
