Friday marked the fourth annual Metallica Night at the San Francisco Giants home field, AT&T Park, but it wasn’t all about the band.
Frontman James Hetfield took the opportunity to lead the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Giants Hall of Famer Willie Mays, who’d turned 85 years old that day, while bassist Rob Trujillo held up a sign with Mays’s name during the performance.
As in previous years, drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the first pitch and Hetfield and Kirk Hammett played a guitar instrumental version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
