The first demos of “Physical Graffiti”s watershed song, “Kashmir,” were said to be really long. As time passes, the supposed “facts” about those demos become more outrageous (“the track was almost an hour long!”). Jimmy Page acknowledges the demos were considerably longer than the now-familiar 8:28 length, but an hour long? Nope.

As for that titanic “Kashmir” riff, it started off as a tuning cycle Page had been using for years.

Album sales (U.S.) – 8 million
Chart position – 11
